How to Pick Your NYE Outfit

How to Pick Your NYE Outfit

When it comes to New Year’s Eve looks, everyone seems to have one thing in mind: sparkles. And while we are all about some sparkle here and there (See: The Make-a-Statement-and-Make-it-Extra Celebrator), we know that that’s not everyone’s cup of tea. We’re here to find you the best party outfit for your personality type. So just pick a lane, pick a look, and it’ll be time to throw out those resolutions and welcome in the year in style!

The Don’t-Want-to-Wear-it-Only-One-Night Celebrator

You’re what your friends call “practical” and what we call “someone who knows what they’re about.” You aren’t interested in filling your closet with bold sparkles and trendy silhouettes and anything else that will only ever be worn on NYE 2019. So we want to make sure that your party style can be worn time and time again, whether you want to go with a classic little black dress, you want to keep things comfortable with a relaxed jumpsuit (plus some stunning booties, of course), or you're feeling the ultra-comfortable red corduroy bell-bottoms.

The Make-a-Statement-and-Make-it-Extra Celebrator

You’re always down to command a room, especially when it’s because you’re shining as brightly as the disco ball at your New Year’s party. Glitter is your best friend, and you’ve never needed an excuse to go all out. For you, we’ve gathered our boldest jumpsuits, shiniest sequin pants, and sparkliest dresses for a look that’s even more synonymous with NYE than a flute of champagne.

The Ring-in-the-Party-in-Peace-and-Zen Celebrator

You are a Boho Mama through and through, and a big night out is no exception. You want flowy lines, relaxed fits, and a style that is just as appropriate for a beach day as it is watching the ball drop with your best friends. We see you and love you, and are going full on with the maxi dresses for you this year. Our favorites are the sweet floral wrap dress, the bright red dress, and the more subtle black dress. Try a pair of thigh-high suede boots to finish things off in the sleekest way, with the added bonus of keeping your legs warm on a winter night out.

The Wild-at-Every-Turn Celebrator

You are fierce, you are wild, and you are never afraid of rocking an animal print (or a few) no matter how tame your day might seem. You know that the second someone says, “Hey, I know it’s crazy but would you want to … ?“ you’re already on board. For your ferocious New Year’s Eve, and every night after, we’ve grabbed our favorite cheetah- and leopard-print dresses, and a zebra faux-fur coat to top it all off.

Easy Halloween Costumes for the Family

Easy Halloween Costumes for the Family

Fall is finally kicking in, and that means cozy sweaters, big cups of hot cocoa, and, of course, finding the perfect Halloween costumes for the whole family. And we’ve never been fans of taking the easy way out and buying whatever costume we can find in the store because that’s way too easy (and too boring). But we also know that coming up with creative costumes for the whole family is no small feat, so we are here to make your life a little easier, and as adorable as can be, with our favorite easy DIY Halloween costumes.

Frida Kahlo

We love teaching our little ladies about strong women in history, so we are over the moon for this Frida Kahlo costume. And it’s about as easy as it possibly can be — just pick a dress from our new collection of Wander & Wonder and then add a flower crown and draw in Frida’s iconic unibrow for the sweetest costume.

Lion

We love an easy lion costume for our littlest trick-or-treaters, because not only is it the cutest little costume, but it’ll also keep them so cozy. Just dress your little in this Quincy Mae organic cotton full-snap footie and then add on a mane and a tail, and they’ll be ready to roar.

Train conductor

Bring in some old-time charm that’s perfect for the gal who wants a costume that is as unique as she is with a train conductor costume. The Rylee & Cru denim jumpsuit is one that she’ll be able to keep wearing long after all of the treats are gone — just add the baker’s hat from Fini The Label and a red bandana.

Leopard

You already know that we’re wild about leopard right now, so might as well make your new favorites do double duty by transforming into a leopard for all of your Halloween parties. For this costume, pick out any leopard piece, like the Saylor leopard-print dress, or any of our favorites from Jen's Pirate Booty, like the leopard slip dress, or the button-down blouse. Your little girl can wild up her look, too, with this leopard tee and leggings! Then, just add on ears, a tail, and draw on a nose and whiskers to complete your costume.

Lumberjack

Let your cool guy show off his rugged side (and find a new outfit that he’ll love rocking for school too) with this homemade lumberjack costume. It’s as easy as the checkered button-down from Rylee & Cru, the DL1961 pants, and the beanie and glove set from Fini The Label. Oh, but make sure you don't forget about the fake beard!

Scarecrow

This easy scarecrow costume will be anything but scary — unless you want to switch things up and go for more of that undead look with a little creative makeup. However you want to play it, start with the Rolla’s denim overalls and the cutest fray boater hat from Lack of Color. If you’re like us and always go way too hard with your Halloween look, you can stuff your shirt with straw, just make sure to wear a soft shirt underneath so you’ll be comfortable for all of your spooky forays.

Happy First Day of Fall

Happy First Day of Fall

Happy first day of fall, babes! Now we love summer just as much as everyone else — the beach days, the patios, the best adventures with our littles — but we are thrilled to welcome our favorite season. Now obviously the sun is still shining and the summer temperatures are still hanging on, but that doesn’t mean it’s too early to build the cozy wardrobe that we've been dreaming about. So stock up on hot cocoa, plan some apple orchard trips, and check out our top fall styles.

We are wild for animal print, and when you pair that with balloon sleeves and make it as cozy as could be, we can’t possibly say no. We’re hoping sweater season rolls in soon, so we can pair this leopard jumper from Lost in Lunar with some high-waisted mom jeans and Chelsea boots.

Shop the long-sleeve turtleneck sweater dress from Minkpink

We’ve been dreaming about this sweater dress from Minkpink ever since we first laid eyes on her. This is instantly the perfect outfit, and it doesn’t even matter where you’re going. The color-blocked chevron design brings a retro vibe and the shift fit keeps it crazy comfortable. For a day out and about, we like to pair it with sneakers, but then slip on some thigh-high boots the second the sun goes down.

Now that we’ve set our sights on this shearling denim jacket from Show Me Your Mumu, we are irate that it’s still sundress weather. But that won’t stop us from wearing it with anything and everything, and powering through the heat. With that relaxed fit, you can easily layer it over even the thickest sweaters, and the shearling lining means it’ll keep you warm when winter shows up.

Shop the burgundy corduroy bell-bottom pants from Show Me Your Mumu

If you know anything about us, you know that we are firm believers that bell-bottoms should be worn on a regular basis. So, of course, we had to bring in some autumn vibes by making them burgundy and corduroy. Try pairing these corduroy bell-bottoms from Show Me Your Mumu with a cropped sweater and some booties for a look that’s as bold as you are.

Shop the magenta fuzzy cardigan from Minkpink

There’s a reason why cardigans are the ultimate wardrobe staple — they instantly warm up any outfit. But this year it’s all about the statement cardigan, and this bright magenta cardigan from Minkpink sure makes a statement with the cropped length, fuzzy fabric, and bold buttons.

Okay, I guess we have to accept that the leaves aren’t going to instantly turn and the days won’t be the perfect temperature the second the first day of fall shows up on our calendars, so while the days are still warm, this gauze jumpsuit from Stillwater will be the perfect go-to choice. Of course, when things cool down, all you have to do is layer on a long coat, like our favorite pink teddy coat from Lost in Lunar, and you’ll be ready to go.

One of the best things about fall is the cuddling up with a good movie and your favorite snacks, so we couldn’t have a fall outfit list without adding in these thermal jogger pants from MATE The Label. These organic cotton sweatpants will be the easiest thing to throw on whether you are running errands (try pairing them with a graphic tee to add a little extra style) or you’re just relaxing at home.

Monthly Muse: Kelsey DiPrima

Monthly Muse: Kelsey DiPrima

When it comes to mixing styles and establishing your own personal brand, Kelsey DiPrima (@kelsey_diprima) reigns supreme. She’s one of our favorite fashion and lifestyle bloggers, and we were thrilled when we found out that she’s also loving us! Between sharing her fabulous self with us on her blog and adventuring around Southern California with her pup, Piper, we caught up with her to hear more about what trends we can’t miss out on this summer, what her time at FIDM was like, and (we couldn’t help ourselves) what her top oldbazaaristanbul picks are.

Your personal style is amazing, have you considered becoming a stylist to others?

First of all, THANK YOU! BUT I do style others on the side! I worked at Nordstrom for seven years so it’s very easy for me to help others dress for their body type! I love helping people clear their closet and ease new trends into their wardrobe without scaring them! I’m also known for how honest I am, which is very honest when it comes to styling. You can’t be afraid to tell people what works for them, but more importantly, what doesn’t!

What trends are you loving right now?

Ahh, I am loving linen chic — a European summer has been on my mind… giant (straw) hats, straw bags, and loose neutral linens. Dreamy!

We see you attended FIDM, how do you translate your study of fashion into what you do now?

FIDM taught me SO many things! It taught me how to spot trends and know which are going to last and which won’t. Not only that, it lets me spot WHAT part of the trend will last and how big trends will transform into the following season. My major was merchandise product development, so it taught me the design side (which is where trend spotting comes in) along with the business side. I think a huge part of knowing how to run a business and market yourself has led to my early success in blogging! Along with the fact that this is what I was meant to be doing — I can feel that in my bones.

What or who are your major influences?

Europe and Australian fashion influence me A LOT. Some of my favorite online influencers consistently have been @sheamarie (she is fashion goals) and @laurajadestone — both of their style + beauty + aesthetic are constantly on my “oh yes” radar!

What are some of your top picks from BohemianMama.com?

Eco Fashion brand Sancia The Label made with plant based fabrics Tencel and Viscose

Summer Styling with Sancia

When it comes to effortless summer style, wanderlust seems to be the name of the game, with our new favorite brand really leading the pack. This Australian company was created to showcase the ideal mix of global influences and beachy Australian vibes. The story starts in 2013 with leather accessories (with brushed gold hardware that’s to die for), but lucky for us they decided to expand to apparel so we can fill our closets with the dreamiest pieces. We are head-over-heels in love with everything they have, but here are our top 5 summer wardrobe essentials.

1. Statement Shorts

Shop the striped flowy shorts from Sancia

When the sun is shining and all there is to worry about is whether you’re going to spend your twelve hours of daylight at the beach or curled in the hammock with a new book, there’s only one appropriate uniform: shorts. We’re all for those trusty denim cutoffs that you’ve had for years, but once you slip on the Sabrina Shorts, you probably won’t want to wear anything else. Not only are they so comfy with the super relaxed fit, but also they showcase the official pattern of summer (at least in our opinion).

2. Casual Blouse (that can be worn with anything)

Shop the flowy painters shirt with buttons from Sancia

Some people might think that button-down shirts are meant only for days in the office, but we are here to tell you that that's utterly and completely wrong. The Estelle Painters Shirt brings the perfect free-spirited style with the slouchy fit, and you can wear it in (approximately) a million different ways — we’re talking over your swimsuit on beach day, French-tucked into jean shorts, or tied at the waistline with your favorite jeans.

3. Sunny Pants

Shop the mustard high-waisted paperbag pants with stripes from Sancia

In case you haven’t yet realized, mustard is the color of the season (and the official condiment of summer barbecues). Even better than brightening up any outfit, these high-waisted paperbag pants have a relaxed fit that will make it feel like you’re strolling around in your pajamas while making you look like you just came from a day in Paris. The Lida Pants are super lightweight to keep you comfortable even when the sun is strongest — just tuck in a tank top for the perfect casual-chic outfit.

4. Function Meets Everything-Else-You-Could-Want-in-a-Bag

Gone are the days of simply grabbing whatever purse you can find, because with a statement as striking as the L'echelle Mini crossbody bag, you’ll never pass up an opportunity to catch some eyes. The structured design means no more digging around trying to find your keys amongst the madness, and the mix of bamboo and leather is about as beautiful as you could imagine.

5. Jump into Jumpsuits

You know the feeling when you just slip on a dress and all of a sudden you feel like you can do anything? Well with jumpsuits, you really can do it all. The Lia Jumpsuit has the versatile look of a maxi dress — perfect for beach weddings, brunch with your besties, or just strolling around your city — and the lightweight feel and spaghetti straps will make it your go-to one-piece outfit as long as there’s a hint of sun. Want to bring even more winery-weekend vibes? Look to the Palma hat from Lack of Color to bring it all together.

Taking Things Beyond Sustainability

Taking Things Beyond Sustainability

In the world of fashion, “sustainable” is a term that’s tossed around about as loosely as “trendy” or “unique,” and we’re usually left wondering what it really means. That’s not to say that sustainability is a concept to be taken lightly since the earth needs our protection more than ever. To make your ethical and environmentally conscious shopping even easier, we decided it was time to toss out sustainability as a basic label and explain to you exactly how our favorite brands are doing their part to help the planet and the people who live here.

Quincy Mae

Soft baby turban made with organic cotton from Quincy Mae

Every mama knows that when it comes to your little ones, you won’t compromise on quality, which is why we are thrilled to carry the sweetest baby clothing from Quincy Mae. It doesn’t matter if it’s a simple accessory like the long-sleeve baby dress and ribbed leggings, each item is made from certified organic cotton. This means that not only will it be safe for baby’s sensitive skin, it’ll also keep them as cuddly as can be.

Little Shop of Oils

Aura Cleanse Soap is an all-natural crystal-infused soap from Little Shop of Oils

We will be the first to admit that we take self-care very seriously around here, but also if you aren’t treating yourself to the very best, what’s the point? And when it comes to your skin and mental health, it's vital to go as pure as you can. Little Shop of Oils makes this easy by giving us organic body products that are made in small batches in California, so you can self-care Sunday easily knowing that you are keeping the earth (and your skin) protected. If you want to create an entire routine to keep your life in balance, start things off with the Aura Cleanse Soap, add three or four drops of the organic cold-pressed Prickly Pear Anti-Aging Serumto your face, and then keep your calm all day with the Anxiety Sucks essential oil blend (our personal favorite).

Boyish Jeans

Shop the Toby high-rise boyfriend jeans with distressed detailing from Boyish

When your go-to outfit is always centered around your favorite jeans, why not make them eco-friendly jeans (that also have the perfect fit every time — we aren’t joking). In case you never looked into it too much, the average pair of jeans takes 1,800 gallons of water to make, and that’s not even taking into account the harsh chemicals that are used (and then dumped back into the environment at the end of the process). That’s where Boyish comes in to save the world. Besides using ⅓ the amount of water (that they then recycle), they don’t use any harsh chemicals, they use recycled cotton and other deadstock/vintage fabrics, and to top it all off, they give one-percent of their annual profits to organizations they believe in. Now that we’ve covered the basics of what makes Boyish stand apart, we can’t ignore the fact that they're also focused on the highest quality and the best fit, whether you want a pair you can wear every single day, like The Zachary high-waisted skinny jeans, or you’re looking for some statement denim, like The Toby high-waisted distressed boyfriend jeans.

Keep it Trending in the New Year

Keep it Trending in the New Year

2019 is all about going bright and bold and bringing that confidence into every other aspect of our lives. We’re already seeing things shift from those groovy ‘70s vibes that took over last year, but don’t worry, vintage isn’t going anywhere. To make your style transition smoother, we’ve pulled together our favorite trends for 2019 and some ways that you can style everything to bring in your own personalized touch. All that’s left to do is rock them!

Sustainable Fashion

Sustainable high-waisted skinny jeans from Boyish denim

Anyone who knows fashion knows that it’s an industry full of pollution, but luckily, we’re seeing things move toward sustainability and away from fast fashion. In fact, this is one of the biggest trends that we’ll see take over this year. Some people might hear this and think that means they have to spend a small fortune to try to do good, but we’re here to show you how it’s done: vintage, vintage, vintage. We all know that the ‘90s takeover is very real (just look to any store or fashion blogger for evidence of that), but keep things authentic by finding your new favorite pieces from your local thrift shops, consignment stores, or online vintage shops like Moth Oddities (one of our favorites). Once you find some vintage treasures, mix them with pieces from companies that do good — our favorite go-to outfit for a girls’ night out is to tie the front of a vintage concert tee and pair it with the Zachary Skinny Jeans from Boyish. Then, of course, we can’t leave the house without a vintage oversized Levi’s jean jacket.

Menswear with a Twist

High-waisted trouser pants for menswear-inspired look

Fashion trends often mirror other social trends, and with powerful ladies taking over the world faster than ever before, we’re seeing a lot more options for chic menswear. And we know what you’re thinking — menswear isn’t anything new — but 2019 is doing things differently. All of our favorite menswear-inspired pieces have something that makes them stand out, like the flattering and feminine high-waisted cut of the Posey Pants from Cleobella and the sweet waterfall front on the Proxy Blazer from Wish. For a fun way to offset the masculine energy of these pieces, try pairing your version of the menswear trend with some more feminine styles, like a floral top with trouser pants.

Pants as a Statement

Striped high-waisted wide-leg pants

It’s all about being bold and not backing down, and with the power of statement pants on your side, you can do anything (just try them on and you’ll see what we’re talking about). The best part about this trend is that there’s something for every style — you can go more classic with bell-bottom pants and distressed denim or our more colorful babes can rock the Pandora Pants from Lost + Wander. We’re also keeping our drawers stocked with biker shorts, which are the perfect choice to pair with a tank top for a casual vibe or under a mini dress for easy comfort-meets-retro style.

Eye-Catching Earrings

Lightweight resin statement earrings from Moon Water Co.

Within the last couple of months, large, bold earrings have taken over from the more classic styles we’ve been rocking lately. With everything from long statement hoop earrings, like these Ettika earrings, to colorful resin earrings from Moon Water Co., this trend is your solution for keeping your style fresh even when you don’t feel like changing out of your jeans and a relaxed tee for a night out.

Bodysuits with Everything

Flowy printed bodysuit from Free People

Say goodbye to shirts riding up and clunky tucking — 2019 is the year of comfort! And at the very top of our list of genius inventions that don’t get enough credit, you will find the bodysuit. That’s right, we’re replacing all of our tops with bodysuits (well, not really, but we would if we could). They are the most versatile trend we’ve seen yet: you can pick one that has a dressier style and a relaxed fit, like the Willow Bodysuit from Free People and then slip on the Georgia Denim Skirt from DL1961 for brunch out with the family or edge things up with the Jane Striped Bodysuit from Harlow Jade and some boyfriend jeans or cutoff shorts from Boyish.

Brighten Things Up

Colorful striped mini dress with belt and ruffles

Even if you aren’t keeping up with Pantone’s color of the year each year, you’ll have no choice but to see it everywhere — we’re talking home decor, fashion, and even film. This year we are in love with Living Coral as the perfect way to brighten things up and bring some easy cheer to our lives, and we’ll be seeing a lot of other bright colors gracing the runways and our closets. This Cropped Varsity Sweater is an easy jumping off point for that vibrant style and we can't leave the Island Fever Mini Dress off of the list of pieces we need. You can also expect more quirky patterns popping up, with polka dots and bold florals helping us make the transition from the ‘70s-inspired styles that marked 2018 fashion to a year of the ‘80s, which some may fear but we welcome with open arms.
